With the glorious Colorado weather warming up and local flora exploding in bloom, it’s official: Spring has come early this year, and with it, the feelings of summer and freedom abound.
It’s hard enough to be cooped up inside during this time for class, especially understanding the fact many of our peers at other schools will be done for summer in only a few weeks.
Whether it’s fulfilling major requirements, jumping through the numerous and flaming hoops of the Daniels College of Business secondary admission process, anticipating impending graduation or simply the last quarter of the year, this quarter proves to be the most drawn out, as students languish in the long days of spring and summer.
Here are a few strategies for surviving spring quarter and having enough energy to power through until the beginning of June.
The first thing is to take a moment to reflect and remember that we have already made it through two-thirds of this school year.
Notwithstanding summer courses, we are done with the great majority of this year. Look how far we’ve come since last September! Ten weeks seems like such a petty barrier between now and summer, does it not?
It’s also important to remember in these final weeks, while we can’t leave for summer yet, we can certainly start doing summer activities. We can spend time outdoors even in Denver; Washington Park across the highway is a vast and nearby getaway, where one can reflect, exercise, just hangout or even rent a paddleboat with friends.
Another nearby escape is the Botanic Gardens, located a few miles away.
Second, students should keep in mind that the prize which awaits at the end of quarter three is the greatest of all: summer vacation. In this case, our hard work and patience will pay off quickly.
Whether it’s working or spending time at home or with old friends, summer is a vacation we won’t always have. In a few short years, we may be working in a career, and most employers don’t offer a generous 10-week summer package.
So take advantage of this unique and beautiful thing , afforded only to us, the youth.
Finally, students would do well to the same tactics used every quarter in the past.
Keep abreast of work, take personal time for yourself and your health, study when you ought to and have fun when you need to get away. Maintain a balance of all things, academic and personal.
By following the above techniques and methods, students may have a better chance of surviving the last and most prolonged quarter.
It will by no means be easy to do, but with a little luck and perseverance we can jump this last hurdle that bars us from summer and survive the spring quarter blues.
