Filling the Convention Center Lecture Hall with laughter, comedian Dane Cook performed on Friday night to a packed audience in Denver. The internationally famous Cook performed many of his well-known dialogues, along with a variety of new ones. The show, directed to an audience comprised of young adults, focused on the comedic emphasis on everyday actions. At one point, Cook explained the comedy in society’s reaction to car accidents. He also discussed the concept of love (or “lourve” like Celine Dion says) and the endeavor of going to the movies with a date. Prior to Cook’s appearance on Friday, a preview for his new film, “Waiting,” played throughout the hall. Another stand-up comedian also preceded Cook to the stage. Born in Cambridge, Mass., Cook has been performing stand-up acts since 1990 and appeals primarily to the 18-35 crowd. He has made various television appearances, including David Letterman’s and Jay Leno’s late night shows. Cook recently released his sophomore CD, Retaliation, which debuted at no. 4 on the Billboard 200, making him the highest charting comedian in 25 years. Cook appeared in Denver as a part of a national tour. He plans to continue his act in Los Angeles and New England in upcoming weeks. Though in places vulgar, Cook’s show Friday left the audience satisfied. The age-appropriate act reached many of the audience members directly. Cook’s ability to use everyday comedic situations helped the audience to enjoy the humor. Overall, his choice in performance and quick, no-down-time style moved the act swiftly through the two-hour period. Widely celebrated by his fans, Cook departed the stage after a standing ovation.
