What went right

Junior Faimie Kingsley led the Pioneers in both matches, recording eight kills and five blocks Friday against Western Kentucky and six kills and six blocks Saturday against Middle Tennessee. Freshman Cassie Ronda contributed 11 kills on the weekend.

What went wrong

In their last two regular season matches of the season, the Pioneers gave up their first two conference sweeps of the year, falling 0-3 in both road matches.

Up next

Next up, the Pioneers return home to host Arkansas-Little Rock on Friday at 7 p.m. and Arkansas State on Sunday at 1 p.m. in Hamilton Gymnasium.

Swimming and Diving

What went right

In a two-meet California swing over the weekend, the women’s team defeated both UC-Santa Barbara and Cal Poly, with finishes of 151-149 and 171-129, respectively. Saturday, the men’s team defeated Cal Poly 175-112. Friday, women’s senior Elizabeth Yovich  and men’s freshman Ross Edfort swept the dive boards for the first time since 2007. Freshmen Drew Matthews and Bridgette McNally had strong showings, recording four of the women’s eight first-place finishes. On the men’s side, senior Clayton Myers recorded two of the four top finishes Friday, winning the 500 Freestyle (4:38.01) and the 400 IM (4:02.65). Sophomore Tanner Krall recorded a first-place time of 2:05.33 in the 200 Breaststroke.

What went wrong

Despite several great performances, the men’s team fell to UC-Santa Barbara 168-132 in their first dual meet of the season on Friday.

Up next

The Pioneers will return to action at the El Pomar Natatorium at the Ritchie Center on Nov. 12 against Utah, Northern Arizona (women’s), Colorado School of Mines (men’s) and Seattle.
