On April 16, the Asian Student Alliance (ASA) and the Alpha Beta Chapter of Latino America Unida, Lambda Alpha Upsilon Fraternity, Inc. hosted Game On, Neon.

ASA encouraged attendees to wear neon-themed clothing and provided glow-in-the-dark accessories. At this event, empanadas and custom-made drinks were served, ranging from Grapefruit-ade to Strawberry Yakult Soda.

After food and drinks, guests engaged in a karaoke session with songs ranging from Rihanna’s “Please Don’t Stop the Music” to K-pop Demon Hunter’s “Golden.” Duc-Tri Do, the vice president of ASA, mentioned that making the specialized drinks was his favorite part of the event.

A collaboration between the Lambdas and ASA has been a mutual goal for both groups. Karen Kim, second-year marketing officer of ASA, mentioned that the Lambdas have always shown their support of ASA by sharing and showing up to their events.

“It’s just a sign of unity of affinity groups on this campus,” she said.

In terms of general community connections, this event represented the celebration of different identities and perspectives that make every affinity group unique — which Kim emphasized its importance due to a lack of diversity on campus.

The ASA e-board is currently working on selecting new leaders for the upcoming school year. As they’re wrapping up the quarter, their goals include maintaining their visibility on campus and setting up the incoming board members for success in order to expand their current programming.

ASA’s next event will be Solar New Year in collaboration with the South Asian Student Alliance (SASA) on April 30 at the Burwell Center of Career Achievement. The event will feature henna artists, a photo booth and food..

Continue to keep up with ASA’s Instagram and Crimson Connect as well as the Instagram of the Lambdas who hinted at some fundraisers and community events later on in the quarter.
