Junior guard Angelina Robles led Denver’s effort with 23 points in just 28 minutes and a perfect 11-11 from the free throw line.
Her impressive game was outdone by Kansas City’s Emani Bennett, who scored 30 to help give Kansas City the win.
The game was a back-and-forth battle with 11 lead changes. Denver looked promising for most of the game, leading 28-26 at the half and 50-47 at the end of the third.
Kansas City took the final lead of the game with a three from Bennett with 3:28 left and went on to close out at the free throw line.

Junior guard Jordan Jones led the team with 22 points, followed by another strong game from Robles, who added 20 points.
St. Thomas was lights-out from the field, shooting 59.6% overall and 43.8% from three-point range. This team effort was furthered with three players scoring more than 15 points.
These two losses moved Denver women’s overall record to 8-16 and their Summit League record to 1-10.
Denver men’s basketball started their week with a game against South Dakota on Thursday, taking a loss, 86-79.
Denver led 42-39 at halftime, but the game slipped away from them through second-half shooting woes. They shot 0-12 from behind the arch in the second half to bring their game total down to 19%.
Sophomore guard DeAndre Craig led the team in scoring with 19 points but shot 1-7 from three.
Denver men’s basketball was also back in action on Saturday against St. Thomas, losing a close game 79-76.
Denver showed a big improvement in shooting. They shot 50% from behind the three-point line, with 24 of their points coming from threes.
Freshman guard Sebastian Akins led the team with 19 points and an efficient 7-10 shooting.
Akins also made two clutch layups to keep Denver in the game with less than a minute left, but they could not come through at the defensive end to get the win.
Denver’s record moved to 8-18 overall and 2-9 in the Summit League with these two losses.
