The Korbel Graduate Student Association (KGSA) is partnering with DU’s Social Justice Solidarity Group Association (SJS) to promote unity and cohesion in their support of Palestine through educational photojournalism. They will be holding a series of events at the Josef Korbel School of International Studies to promote public dialogue and welcome Palestinian voices and perspectives.

The SJS and KGSA will be opening a Palestinian Art Exhibition called, “Empower through Art” at the Cherrington Commons of the Josef Korbel School from May 6-10. The exhibit will showcase the resilience, struggle and hope of the Palestinian people through photojournalism.

The goal of the SJS is to elevate the stories of Palestinian artists and photojournalists by offering them a platform to share their stories, perspectives and experiences. This exhibit will also emphasize the complexities of the current conflict in Gaza and Rafah by sharing historical and contemporary realities of violence and resistance.

The Korbel School hopes to create a critical dialogue among DU and local communities by sharing compelling pieces of artistic photography and representing the realities of Palestinians in Gaza.

Community members who want to view the art exhibit can RSVP for the event through the Social Justice Solidarity Website

Throughout May, the SJS and Korbel School will host several events dedicated to creating awareness and support for Palestine.

A screening of the film Fara will be held on May 14 at 5 p.m. in Maglione Hall, room 5025. Fara is the compelling story of a young Palestinian girl during the time of Nakba, the mass displacement and dispossession of Palestinians during the 1948 Arab-Israeli War.

On May 21, a Palestinian voices panel will be held in Maglione Hall. More information regarding the time of the panel and speaker biographies will be provided closer to the event.

The SJS welcomes all community members to participate in these upcoming events to amplify Palestinian voices and contribute to local and global dialogue on their experiences and aspirations for peace and justice. Those with questions, ideas or concerns can contact the SJS at sjskorbel@gmail.com.
