Jakob Nowell of Jakob’s Castle announced the upcoming 2024 national tour, as well as the release of a new video for their single, “Time Traveller.” The Long Beach, CA band just finished their nationwide 2023 fall tour, covering the country with dates starting in Southern California and ending in Southern Florida. They toured with affiliated bands Steel Pulse, Long Beach Dub Allstars and Common Kings.
Nowell is the son of late Sublime frontman Bradley Nowell. The 28-year-old’s project is an opportunity for him to keep the legacy of his father’s music alive, while simultaneously bringing a fresh touch to the old-school Long Beach sound, a new sound he calls “beach meets internet.”
The castle’s early sound draws on elements from the 90’s Long-Beach ska-punk, infusing it with hyper-speed pop rhythms akin to the new-age electronic sound. Nowell looks to break genre barriers and create a new sound that is accessible to everybody.
The video for the band’s recent single “Time Traveler” was released on Nov. 6. The video offers a perfect visual representation of the new sounds, full of screen glitches and colorful effects.
Jakob’s Castle is Nowell’s latest project after the disbanding of his former group, LAW. The Castle also consists of guitarist Eric Walsh, (formerly a member of Authority Zero) and drummer Chris Batholomew (formerly a part of As Blood Runs Black.)
The band has released three other singles as of now: “Lights Out,” “Close Enough” and “Motel Radio.” They recently signed a deal with Epitaph Records and are continuing to create more music as they await the start of their 2024 tour, beginning in January.
The Castle gained popularity with audiences on their last tour due to their high-energy performances and Nowell’s interaction with the crowd. They look to continue to grow their popularity on their upcoming tour. You can catch them in Colorado this spring when they end their tour with stops in Fort Collins on March 15 and Boulder on March 16.
