The DU women’s volleyball team had two games this week against the North Dakota Fighting Hawks and the North Dakota State Bison, sweeping both games for back-to-back wins.

The first game against North Dakota was a strong back-and-forth performance as the Crimson and Gold and the Fighting Hawks put up a good fight.

The first set of the match started strong for DU, clocking three aces in the first five points. The Fighting Hawks didn’t go down easy as they fought their way back into the match late, but DU was able to hold them off for the first set, winning 25-21.

The second set was a continued solid performance by the Crimson and Gold, but North Dakota kept themselves strong for the middle portion of the set, ringing off multiple points. DU stayed strong and finished off the second set, 25-18.

The third set was another great set for DU as they won the third set to complete the sweep, 25-17. The Crimson and Gold showed resilience as the Fighting Hawks started the third set strong getting the first couple of points, but by the halfway point of the match, DU had the lead and did not let up.

Graduate student opposite hitter Mackenzie Fidelak led the team with 9 kills in the match, while freshman setter Briley Decker led the team with 32 assists.

In the second game of the week, the Crimson and Gold continued to dominate, sweeping North Dakota State, 3-0.

Two different lead changes and 14 kills highlighted a hard-fought first set for Denver, weathering the barrage to come out on top, 25-23. The second set of the match mirrored the first — a back-and-forth set that the Crimson and Gold won, 25-23. This time six lead changes led to neither team being able to dominate over one another.

The third set of the match was another nail-biter as DU won the final set for the sweep, 26-24.  The Crimson and Gold smacked six aces in the set to help finish off the sweep.

Graduate student middle blocker Cadi Boyer led the game with 11 kills and Decker recorded 35 assists.

An overall great week for the DU women’s volleyball team improved their record to 3-7 on the season. The team is back in action this week as they take on the South Dakota State Jackrabbits this Thursday in South Dakota.
