A new club is making its way to campus. The Association of Latino Professionals for America (ALPFA) will be establishing a chapter here at the University of Denver. This new addition to the association will be its second chapter in Colorado. However, ALPFA has been around for 50 years. First established in 1972 in Los Angeles the program has now reached a membership of over 100,000.
The mission of this program is simple- to empower and develop Latino men and women as leaders of character for the nation, in every sector of the global economy.
The ALPFA is not only for undergraduate students, but for graduates as well. The program aims to provide students with networking, mentorship and scholarship opportunities that span all across the country.
The hope for this program is to have all departments collaborate to bring a diverse range of perspectives and opportunities that some would have otherwise not known about. The ideal outcome is to establish a community that promotes professional development on DU’s campus and offers Latine students a place to be authentically themselves while also giving them the resources to better equip them for the working world.
Club meetings will include guest speakers in various careers, workshops to develop professional skills and a space to address the challenges one may encounter in the work force and how to combat them. ALPFA aims to revolutionize the way DU prepares its students, specifically the Latine student body, for life post graduation and beyond.
The goal is to mitigate the disparities amongst students, especially minorities when it comes to their access to professional networking, development and connections.
The Association of Latino Professionals for America DU Chapter is Latine founded, but not Latine inclusive as allies are welcome. Make sure to keep an eye out for future meetings and scan the QR code if interested in joining. More information to come as the program continues to form.
