Latine Student Alliance (LSA) and the Native Student Alliance (NSA) kicked off their first collaboration of the Spring quarter with a celebration of indigenous culture within the Latine community while “bringing awareness to the influences of indigenous Latines.”
The celebration took place on April 22, 2022, outside of Sturm on Campus Green at the University of Denver from 4 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.
The celebration provided Latin American/Indigenous snacks including mazapanes, gansitos, jarritos, a variety of chips, dips, conchas, and candy.
The celebration involved multiple beautiful performances by Grupo Tlaloc of Denver. Students from the DU community were even invited to join Grupo Tlaloc of Denver in a heartwarming performance. Embracing indigenous culture, members of the DU community held hands while indulging in traditional dances.
“Thank you to Groupo Tlaloc of Denver for sharing their beautiful culture of song and dance with the DU Community,” said NSA on Instagram.
NSA also gave a big thank you to their officers, Darling Perez Ramos (Maya Mam/Quiche) and Camilla Rivera (Pewenche Mapuche), for their hard work in organizing the event.
The event was a beautiful mixture of cultures that welcomed the community with open arms. It showcased the power that traditional dances have in bringing people together. For future events follow LSA and NSA on Instagram.
