Hi! My name is Tori Everson, and I am currently a junior at DU. I am originally from Orono, Minnesota. I am double majoring in international studies and journalism with a minor in marketing. I am so excited to be serving as the Editor-in-Chief of The Clarion for the 2021-22 school year.

I have always had a passion for writing since before I can remember. I was honored to work as the News Editor for my high school paper, and the Editor-in-Chief of the yearbook. These two roles solidified my interest in writing and editing which I carried over into my collegiate career as a journalism major.

The act of writing an article is almost relaxing for me, which I know many people would strongly disagree with. I used this passion to accelerate my writing abilities for assignments with The Clarion.

I started writing for The Clarion in 2019 as a contributing writer, then as a copy editor, then News Editor and now Editor-in-Chief. I am so grateful for every position I have held with the paper and cannot wait to fulfill the biggest role of them all.

I am beyond thrilled to work alongside Conor Chapman, a fellow former copy editor. Conor is a strong writer and editor, and I am eager to see all his wonderful ideas come to life.

Conor and I have many goals for the growth of the paper. We will take these roles seriously to ensure we increase student engagement and involvement with The Clarion as this was impacted by COVID-19. We would love to expand the paper’s community.

We will continue to encourage diversity and advocacy on important social issues such as racial justice, the environment, LGBTQ+ community, women’s movements and more. We aspire to continue to hold the university accountable for their actions, as every student deserves to have their voice heard. We want The Clarion to continue to be an outlet for student activism and an ally to marginalized groups on campus.

As climate change issues remain at the forefront, I would like to build on the seven-part series I established on how sustainability impacts students on a college campus. There is opportunity to dive further into topics that intersect with sustainability, such as energy use, environmental racism and recycling.

I am so grateful for every single writer and staff member of The Clarion. I would not be able to take on this position if it was not for the support and work that everyone has contributed.

Kiana Marsan did a spectacular job as Editor-in-Chief. Despite these unprecedented times, she continued to advocate for the paper’s growth. It will be a challenge to follow in her footsteps, but I am incredibly excited to take on the role as Editor-in-Chief of the DU Clarion. My goal is for everyone’s voice to be heard and valued, and most importantly, that contributors feel safe and welcome to share articles, ideas and personal experiences.
