The Graduate Student Government (GSG) voted on and approved all four of the positions that the executive board proposed during the winter quarter. The move—which required amending the GSG’s constitution—creates a director of finance, director of professional development, director of student organizations and director of social media, all of whom need to be elected during the last GSG Senate meeting this year.

However, the effort to rebalance voting powers between the senate and the e-board was not passed by the senate. Next year’s e-board and senate will likely discuss this matter and make further changes.

The senate also debated the e-board’s proposal to increase the quarterly $10 graduate student fee in the coming year, but they did not come to a final decision. The 2022-2023 GSG budget is already finalized, so any potential increase would not go into effect for this next academic year.

As the executive board enters its final quarter, it has spent much of its time “budget planning for spring quarter and developing a game plan for next year, so the next e-board knows what funding they have to work with,” according to GSG President Melissa Levy.

The e-board has been preparing for the upcoming election at the end of the quarter. In total, there are nine positions that need to be filled. Graduate students have until Monday, May 11 to turn in their applications. While several of the positions will require a student to be on campus, some will open to students who attend DU remotely.

More information about the election, applications and the available positions can be found on the GSG’s website.
