After a much-needed break, Justin Bieber is prepared to return to the spotlight as he gets ready to release his new album, “Changes” on Feb. 14. During his last tour for his “Purpose” album, Bieber decided to cancel the remaining 14 tour dates due to personal reasons. Inevitably, there was a lot of talk about what is going on and what was the reasoning behind this choice, but Bieber left us with the sense that he simply needed to take time for himself. During this exploratory time, not only did he meet his wife, Hailey Bieber, but he has also decided to take fans on the production journey of his fifth album with an original YouTube documentary series, “Seasons.” There will be two episodes released each week from this 10-part documentary.

In the first episode, “Leaving the Spotlight,” Bieber begins his series by explaining how important this upcoming album is for his career. Not only is this his first time creating an album after a long four-year breather, but it is particularly significant because of where he is in his life—things are changing, and Bieber gets to do things his own way now.

The first episode shows Justin and Hailey Bieber making their way to Stratford in Ontario, Canada, Bieber’s hometown. Upon his return, their first stop is his old apartment. The most loyal fans will recall this apartment as the setting of his first-ever YouTube videos, where he was originally discovered by Scooter Braun. Bieber looks around his old neighborhood while reminiscing on where he came from and where he is now. He even makes a comment about “who would’ve thought” he would be driving his Range Rover Sport over to his childhood apartment. While roaming around his hometown, Bieber also makes his way to the stairs he performed on to earn some extra cash from the casual, Canadian pedestrians.

After the Canada visit, audiences are presented with Allison Kaye, Ryan Good and Scooter Braun, three main members of the team that has established Justin Bieber as the pop star we all know. They speak about his recent progress and reflect on his return to the music industry. Ariana Grande’s 2019 Coachella performance was Bieber’s ultimate turning point. After he performed one song with his long-time friend, he was sure that he had to get back into the studio. With that said, here we are; he took this opportunity to create an album that will break the charts.

The second episode, “Bieber is Back,” takes us deeper into the production process. Bieber himself states, “I can never remake this album. Once it comes out, it’s out.” We gain insight from some of his closest friends regarding Bieber’s perfectionism, as they note how attentive he is to every line he sings. Hailey Bieber explains how when he is in the studio “he hears things other people don’t hear.” Scooter Braun discusses the way Bieber grew up in front of the paparazzi while the entire world watched his every move since he was only 13 years old. With this in mind, it is clear that with “Changes,” Bieber is confident in his ability to touch Beliebers and has finally allowed himself to create an honest, authentic album.
