Five gymnasts from DU earned All-American during the 2019 NCAA National Champions, as announced by the Women’s Collegiate Gymnastics Association announced on Friday.
Sophomore Lynnzee Brown (Kansas City, Mo.) was named as the 2019 co-NCAA National Champion on the floor after scoring a 9.950. She led the team with four All-American awards, earning a third-place finish with a 39.575 in the all-around competition during the Semifinals on Friday, Apr. 19. With her third-place finish, Brown earned first-team status, as well as setting Denver’s NCAA Nationals record. After tying for sixth on bars and seventh on beam, she added two second-team honors.
Junior Maddie Karr (Stillwater, Minn.) earned two postseason All-American awards, totaling five career awards. On the bars, she scored a 9.9125, earning first-team status. Karr’s score is also the highest bars score by a Denver gymnast at the NCAA Nationals. She also finished fifth in the all-around with a score of 39.3875, earning second-team honors.
Freshman Alexandria Ruiz (Lake Mary, Fla.) placed in the all-around with a 39.300, earning her first All-American honor of her career.
Fellow freshman Alexis Vasquez (Arcadia, Calif.) brought back first-team All-American honors for her first-place tie on the beam in the NCAA Semifinal.
Senior Kaitlyn Schou (Orlando, Fla.) tied with Brown for seventh-place in finish in beam to take home second-team honors.
The WCGA All-american awards are distributed at the NCAA National Championships based on placement in the each of the different events, as well as the all-around in each of the semifinal sessions. The top four competitors earn first-team honors while those who placed fifth through eighth earn second-team honors.
