The No. 6 Pioneers were able to capture the first win over Colorado College in the Battle for the Gold Pan of the 2018-2019 season. This was the rescheduled game between the Pioneers and Tigers from their series earlier in the year after the Pioneers were delayed traveling to Colorado College due to snow.

On Tuesday night in the Broadmoor Arena, the two teams came out strong in the first period, but it was the Pioneers who struck gold first off of the stick of junior Tyson McLellan (San Jose, Calif.). He was assisted by sophomore Jake Durflinger (Walnut Creek, Calif.) and freshman Kyle Mayhew (Anaheim Hills, Calif.). After the Pioneers took the goal advantage, the defense stepped in and helped secure the win for the Pioneers. Sophomore Devin Cooley (Los Gatos, Calif.) made 24 saves while the Pioneers killed all four penalties they faced. Cooley faced pressure throughout the rest of the game with a crucial shoulder save to preserve the win late in the third period.

The No. 6 Pioneers will travel to Nebraska-Omaha March 1 and 2 and continue their momentum as they near the final game of the regular season.
