The Undergraduate Student Government (USG) held their weekly meeting on Jan. 29. According to Press Secretary Isaiah Jakab, the main focuses of the meeting was the new communications software for USG and the funding bill for clubs. Although no new bills were passed, the Single-Use Plastic Ban amendment was discussed. This would amend the Event Expenditure Restrictions section of the Financial Manual to include “the use of any single use plastics which include but are not limited to: straws, plastic bags, serve ware (silverware, plates, bowls and cups), plastic bottles, coffee stirrers, balloons, confetti, coffee cups and lids and connected plastic rings,” according to the resolution. The amendment would put a limit on what one can purchase with student funds, make it mandatory to use recyclable material and would be USG’s contribution to DU’s sustainability goals. As of writing this, the amendment is tabled. Other matters discussed during the meeting include approving funding for the International Student Organization and Queer Student Alliance’s collaborative Love is Love event.
