Genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist”: take all of that away, and what is Elon Musk? Despite his unarguable financial and commercial success, lately, the mogul has appeared to be something of a rookie in the business world.

Throughout the recent months, the tycoon has gone about upholding his position in all the wrong ways. Maturity seems not to be a word in Musk’s vocabulary, as he’s been behaving in ways beyond unbecoming of a CEO of a multi-billion dollar organization. Be it announcing pertinent stockholder information over Twitter or smoking marijuana during an interview and releasing  a string of childish tweets, Elon Musk may as well be named Benjamin Button: aging backwards as time goes on. Since securing his spot as an economic superpower, Musk almost seems to have stopped caring about his position. Each of these slip-ups have cost him billions of dollars and lowered Tesla stock by almost a whopping 10 percent. This provokes the thought that Musk is incapable of doing his job: for such an intellectual, most of what Musk has been doing as of late is just making unintelligent mistakes.

All of this combined clearly shows the general public just why Musk is undeserving of the chairman position at Tesla. Apparently, the Security and Exchange Commission thought so, too, as Musk was strong-armed into resigning as chairman following accusations of fraud via the aforementioned tweets. Although he will continue his work with Tesla as CEO, he must hand over a $20 million fine. However, one wonders who, exactly, thought keeping Musk on hand was an intelligent, even permissible decision. Musk has hardly had a positive track record manning the head of the company in recent weeks, so his continued holding of that mantle appears to be an ill-made choice. Such an erratic, immature person cannot be trusted to lead such a powerful and influential company such as Tesla. There’s always the potential that, one day, Musk could decide he wants to get high again and permanently damage the company as a whole.

The fact of the matter is, Musk should have been removed from the company entirely to ensure its prosperity, as well as his inability to tarnish its name and standing in the global economy. With as much clout as Tesla has, setting a veritable man-child at the helm is setting the company up for disaster. Musk’s presence in the corporation overall is simply not necessary, as Tesla has enough of a foothold in the worldwide marketplace to function without him. Someone who can’t be trusted not to endanger the company by way of regretful tweets is not integral to the operation of a distinguished and prominent company and is much more detrimental than anything else.
