Denver Volleyball stays on top of the Summit League following sweeps of Omaha and South Dakota State. They swept South Dakota State on Friday, Oct. 26 with scores of 25-18, 25-16 and 25-18, followed by their Sunday sweep of Omaha with scores of 25-12, 27-25 and 25-15.

During the Friday sweep, the sophomore Lydia Bartalo (Colo. Springs, Colo.) served her 50th ace of the year, breaking Denver’s previous record for aces in a single season, previously at 48, held by Lisa Hunter, ‘03. Bartalo totaled seven aces, eight kills, five digs and one block in the match.

Following the match, Head Coach Tom Hogan said, ”Lydia is executing well at the service line. The quality of her serve is impressive, and she continues to improve her consistency.”

Junior Katarina Marinkovic (Belgrade, Serbia), who tallied 10 kills, two digs and three blocks, as and senior Emma Willis (La Jolla, Calif.) earned a 0.714 hitting percentage. Sophomore Ellie Anderson (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) and junior Andrea Eddy (Evergreen, Colo.) each had 16 assists.

On Sunday afternoon, the Pioneers swept Omaha to improve to a historic 22-1 on the season and earn their 13th sweep of Omaha. Denver’s current win streak is at 20 matches.

Eddy had 5 of Denver’s 10 aces in the match, bringing her to 32 aces for the season. She is currently ranked No. 108 in the NCAA for total aces and 114th in the nation for aces per set at 0.35 aces per set. Bartalo hit a 0.467 hitting average with 15 attack attempts, as well as collecting eight kills.

Sophomore Tina Boe (Plymouth, Minn.) tallied five blocks, leading Denver with 91 blocks this season.

The Pioneers head to South Dakota at 7 p.m. MST, on Oct. 30. They return to Denver on Friday, Nov. 2 for senior night, a match that will see them face off against Summit League rivals Oral Roberts. There will be free pizza at the Friday night match for DU students.
