Senior striker Andre Shinyashiki (Sao Paulo, Brazil) led DU past No. 22 San Francisco during DU’s annual Bark in the Park game. This is Shinyashiki’s third hat trick in seven games and his third-straight multi-goal game.

Following a frustrating first half where Denver had a multitude of good looks but none on target, Shinyashiki scored his first goal of the game in the 54th minute off a corner kick from sophomore Jacob Stensson (Stockholm, Sweden). This goal was Shinyashiki’s 11th goal of this season and would fuel an offensive spark.

Shinyashiki scored again in the 66th minute. Redshirt freshman Jared Jungjohann (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) began the play bringing the ball up the left side and passing to senior winger Kenny Akamatsu (Niigata, Japan). Akamatsu took the ball up the the endline and passed back to Shinyashiki, who took one touch and buried the ball into the the net for his second goal of the night.

Shinyashiki completed his hat trick in the 76th minute, dribbling through three defenders before beating the goalie and sending the ball to the back of the net for his final goal of the game. This goal was Shinyashiki’s 36th career goal and completed his third hat trick this season.

Redshirt senior goalie Nick Gardner had several impressive saves throughout the first half of the game, while the offense outshot San Francisco 20 to nine.

DU plays again on Sept. 22 at 6 p.m. MST against Summit League opponent Omaha in a rematch of last year’s Summit League Tournament Final that saw Denver fall in a shootout.
