This weekend the Denver Women’s Soccer team traveled all the way across to UC Riverside for their first of two games in California.

The Pioneers looked on point in the first half; five different players made six shots total with four on target, including one from keeper Brittany Wilson (Littleton, Colo.) in the 40th minute. UCR managed only two, both of which swung high. Denver also claimed three corners compared to UCR’s one.

“I’m so happy with the effort that we turned in today and how well we played to create the chances we created on that surface,” Head Coach Jeff Hooker said. “Soccer’s unfair, and soccer on the road especially is cruel, but I don’t think we deserved that result the way we played today. We moved the ball well, and created a lot of chances, but couldn’t find the final ball tonight. Give them credit though, they’re very effective in the way they play, and how they defend as a team. I’m still super proud of our effort and am looking forward to watching us compete again on Sunday.”

Despite being in control for most of the game, the Pioneers just couldn’t find the back of the net, and in the 59th minute, UCR’s Maddie Feist opened and closed the scoring with her 6th goal of the season.
Denver would finish the game 0-1, with twelve shots total and seven on target.
