The best time of the year, Red Rocks concert season, is finally upon us, and with a jam-packed schedule of rock, pop, acoustic and more, there’s a show for everyone. With multiple shows a week, it can be hard to choose. Look below for a list of some surefire good time concerts that are quickly approaching.
The 1975, May 2
After releasing quite possibly the most polarizing album of the year, Brit band The 1975 will hit the stage at Red Rocks in early May. Expect a dazzling light show and funky, almost awkward, dancing from lead singer Matty Healy as the band plays new material from “I like it when you sleep, for you are so beautiful yet so unaware of it.” Buy tickets for around $50 a pop at the official Red Rocks website.
The Lumineers, June 7-8
Hot off a chart-topping new album, “Cleopatra,” The Lumineers are certainly prepared to take on two nights in a row at Red Rocks. These shows will no doubt be huge for the band, as The Lumineers are from Denver; homecoming shows are always high energy and have high expectations. Buy tickets through Red Rocks.
Modest Mouse & Brand New, June 29
This concert is a rare one; two bands known for erratic touring, sometimes sparse music releases and hardcore fans are converging on June 29 at Red Rocks for what will be one of the most memorable shows of the season. It’s better to see both Modest Mouse and Brand New at once then have to wait for years to see either of them again, so be sure to grab a ticket.
Sufjan Stevens, July 18
The Michigan-born multi-instrumentalist Sufjan Stevens will come to Red Rocks in July after previously playing the much smaller Paramount Theater last year. Be prepared to laugh a little and cry a lot when Stevens plays his sometimes misery-filled music off albums like “Carrie & Lowell.” Snag some tickets before it sells out.
Tame Impala, August 31
Out of all of the shows at Red Rocks this season, this one probably tops most priority lists of concertgoers. Tame Impala has consistently played sold out shows in smaller Denver venues, and with an opening set from slacker-rock Mac Demarco, this one will probably be no different. Buy tickets quick, this show is bound to sell out.
