DU hockey won big over Colorado College at the Battle on Blake on Feb. 20, but someone was missing—Boone, DU’s unofficial mascot, who was removed by Coors Field security. However, Colorado College’s mascot, Prowler, was not kicked out.

Boone has not been DU’s official mascot since 1998 due to issues of diversity. He was replaced by Ruckus, a red-tailed hawk, who was removed in 2008. DU has not had an official mascot since. In the years following, someone dressed as Boone has been at hockey games, lacrosse matches and other DU athletic events. The person dressed as Boone at the Battle on Blake was removed from Coors Field due to violations of the stadium’s policy.

Coors Field policy states that “clothing which conceals a guest’s face is prohibited, including, but not limited to, costumes and masks.” The Boone costume would have been in violation of this policy, especially as a private guest and not someone affiliated with DU anymore, leading to his removal from the game.
Along with Boone, a 25-foot-long “Mega-Boone” banner also went missing at the game, but was later anonymously returned. Coors Field has not released a comment about any aspect of the situation.
