DU is made up of students from all 50 states so we can’t all be Broncos and Panthers fans. But just because you don’t have a personal affiliation to either team doesn’t mean you have to miss out on the festivities altogether. The Clarion has compiled a coping guide for when your beloved team is out of the running for the Super Bowl championship.

Get invested in one of the competing teams

It doesn’t matter which one—games are just always more fun to watch when you care about the outcome. You can base your allegiance off of your home team’s rival, their odds of winning, which state you’d rather live in or even which color combination you prefer. Just pick one, make a bet with one of your friends about the winner and show up on game day decked out in your new team’s colors. We know you die-hard fans will probably never try this out, but we figured it was worth a shot.

There’s always the commercials

There’s a reason some people watch the Super Bowl solely for the commercials. They’re talked about for weeks leading up to the game and for months following it. They’re hilarious and heartwarming and downright iconic and if you can conjure no other reason to get excited this year, make it because Amy Schumer and Seth Rogen will appear together in a Bud Light commercial. Enough said. Just don’t be the person that keeps announcing the commercials are all you care about.

The halftime show

The NFL’s 50th anniversary of the Super Bowl will have a halftime show headlined by Coldplay, who will be joined by previous headliners Beyonce and Bruno Mars. Since there will be such a wide array of performers, there’s sure to be one you can be excited for.
