As football fanatics all over the country gear up for the biggest game of the season, us college students are deciding whether we should spend our last $10 for the week on food or an Uber so we don’t have to walk all the way to our 8 a.m. Since the majority of us can’t afford to make elaborate appetizers with filet mignon, the Clarion has come to the rescue with some of the most delectable Super Bowl-oriented recipes that won’t break the bank.
S’mores dip
We know it sounds a little ridiculous to call a three-ingredient mess a recipe, but as soon as you see this radiant, golden-brown puddle of gooey childhood deliciousness emerge from the oven, it will feel as though everything in your life is aligning perfectly. It’ll hardly even matter to you who wins the game, or that there is a game, for that matter.
Ingredients: one 10-ounce bag Jet-Puffed regular marshmallows, one 12-ounce package Nestle milk chocolate chips ($2.08) and one box honey graham crackers
Directions: Preheat oven to 400 degrees; spread milk chocolate chips evenly throughout the bottom of an eight-inch pie plate; cut marshmallows in half and place on top of chocolate chips until chocolate is fully covered; bake for 8-10 minutes or until marshmallows are golden brown; serve immediately with graham crackers for dipping.
Pizza ring
As a main college food group, pizza holds a special place in all of our hearts. This rendition of the classic makes a handheld delicacy perfectly suited for a hectic Super Bowl party, and costs less than a large delivery pepperoni.
Ingredients: two eight-ounce tubes of Pillsbury crescent rolls, ½ cup of Great Value tomato sauce, 1 cup of Kraft finely shredded mozzarella cheese, 1 tablespoon garlic powder, 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning and the pizza toppings of your choice.
Directions: preheat oven to 425 degrees; line crescent rolls in strips of two on a baking sheet; spread a layer of sauce, then cheese and top with pizza toppings; fold over the edges to create a ring; top with garlic powder and seasoning; bake in oven for 14-18 minutes or until golden-brown.
Chips & queso
What better way to accentuate a day full of friends, family and America’s favorite pastime than with a scalding hot bowl of melted cheese? It’s easy to make, yet sure to be the hit of the party as well as a way to soften the blow if the team you’re rooting for loses.
Ingredients: 1 can RoTel Original Diced Tomatoes & Green Chillies, undrained, 1 package Velveeta, cut into ½ inch cubes, Tostitos Original Restaurant Style Tortilla Chips, Party Size
Directions: combine undrained tomatoes and Velveeta in a medium saucepan; cook over medium heat until Velveeta is melted completely and the mixture is blended; serve warm as a dip with tortilla chips.
