It doesn’t have to be Halloween night to enjoy a scare this October. Here is a sneak peek at the top horror films of the month.
“Knock Knock”: Oct. 9 (R)
“Knock Knock” opens Oct. 9. It tells the story of a devoted husband, played by Keanu Reeves (“The Matrix”), who is left home alone for the weekend. Two innocent looking girls knock on his door to ask for help, but they will not easily leave. What seems normal soon turns deadly.
“The Final Girls”: Oct. 9 (PG-13)
This film combines fear, love, comedy and a classic horror film into one thrilling picture. “The Final Girls” involves a group of teenagers who decide to attend an anniversary showing of the classic horror film “Camp Bloodbath.” When they literally get sucked into the cult film, however, the teens must fight their way to the end and attempt to make it out safely as the final girls.
“The Diabolical”: Oct. 16 (NR)
A mother and her two young children living in a quiet suburban house begin to experience strange and violent phenomena. No paranormal expert knows what to do. Luckily, a friend of the family thinks he can solve the mystery—if he can only do it in time. “The Diabolical” is another twisted new take on the supernatural.
“A Christmas Horror Story”: Oct. 2 (NR)
On the stranger side of things, “A Christmas Horror Story” is out now. This horror film follows the small town of Bailey Downs and its frightening encounter with Krampus—the anti-Santa Claus. With infected elves, terrified children and a fierce battle, the happiest time of year becomes the most horrific.
“Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension”: Oct. 23 (R)
The newest “Paranormal Activity” film will be released just before Halloween. This installment features two brothers who discover old VHS tapes that seem to break the fourth wall. The entire family is amazed and entranced by the “spirit photography,” but things soon take a turn for the worst. Nobody can seem to control what the brothers started.
If nothing seems spooky enough, try an old classic horror film, or check out the Australian horror movie trailer for “Goodnight Mommy” that many sources have deemed the “scariest movie trailer of all time.” Bring on the nightmares.
