DU’s athletics department announced on Oct. 6 that Bill Tierney, the head coach of Denver men’s lacrosse, will remain in his position through the year 2022.

With this contract extension of Tierney’s leadership, DU will continue to stay in the spotlight for the coming years. Last season, he led Denver to its first NCAA Division 1 title, which was also the first national title to be granted to a lacrosse program west of the Mississippi.
Coach Tierney, who earned six NCAA championship victories with Princeton University, came to DU in 2009. After defeating the University of Maryland 10-5 in the 2015 championship game, Denver made history and was able to add a seventh national title to Tierney’s resume.
The first preseason game of the year for the Pioneers is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Oct. 17 at the Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium. Denver will face Colorado State University in an exhibition matchup.
