It’s spring break! Finally! This cold, wintery quarter is over and it’s now time to take a break and enjoy the lovely weather and beautiful outdoors. For my time off I’m traveling to the scenic Zion National Park in Utah for some friendly camping and becoming one with nature. But, what would be a camping trip without some rad tunes? From some perfect campfire songs to some laidback jams, here is a list of songs that are perfect additions to your camping playlist.

“Greenland” by Vundabar
I’m generally not into music like this—grungy, rock music usually isn’t found on my playlist—but I recently fell in love with Vundabar. Their song “Greenland” is high-energy and has some really rad guitar riffs—perfect for an afternoon hike or the casual campground antics. As I said, this isn’t my usual music choice, but I’m really digging this group, and I definitely recommend checking them out.

“10,000 Emerald Pool” by BØRNS
If you’re camping like me or even going somewhere with a beach this spring break, this is the song for you. “10,000 Emerald Pools” has a mellow tempo, and the lead singer’s high voice and gentle “oohs” feel very tropical. It’s a pretty basic alternative rock song, but it stands out with it’s lush vibe. I can see it now: just a simple day near the river listening to this song, it’s going to be pure bliss.

“Pools” by Glass Animals
If you’re trying to feel in touch with nature, look no further than “Pools.” Starting out with subtle nature sounds, this song leads into a rhythmic masterpiece, with plenty of different beats and sounds. It’s pretty electronic, so it might not be your cup of tea when camping, but Glass Animals makes this song sound eerily like an electronic nature of sorts. It has a little bit more of a tropical forest feel than a national park in Utah, but it does its job.

“What I Wouldn’t Do” by A Fine Frenzy
This may be a little bit of a throwback, but I couldn’t resist. It may sound cliché, but this song is perfect for a night of roasting marshmallows over a campfire with good friends. It’s sort of cheesy with plucky guitar, clapping rhythms and even some whistling, it’s campy, to say the least, and I’m a huge fan.

“Tell It To The Volcano” by Miniature Tigers
Miniature Tigers’ “Tell It To The Volcano” is also a great campfire song. The song has an upbeat style, but then you start to realize it’s about throwing an ex-lover into a volcano, with lyrics like, “Umm, I’d like to chuck you down” (most likely into the volcano). Besides that, it has a basic guitar part and some simplistic vocal lines ready for an easy campfire song.

“You” by Bibio
A step back to the more electronic side, “You” by Bibio is a more laidback take on the general electronic thumper. It samples one lyric line, “find somebody just like you,” for the whole song, but takes it and makes an eccentric melodic line by inverting and changing pitches. Although that probably sounds chaotic, surprisingly it’s actually quite relaxing. This will be perfect for my camping trip, but, if you’re not even going anywhere this break, you can go outside and listen to this song, and I promise you’ll feel relaxed.

I’m so relieved this quarter is over, and even more excited for my trek out to Zion. Whatever you end up doing for this spring break, make sure you give yourself some time to relax and listen to some good music.
