The Cable Center hosted a dress drive on Jan. 31 from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. in preparation for the “Say yes to the prom dress” fashion show, which will also be held at the Cable Center on March 19. According to the Cable Center’s public relations representative, Joanne Dant, the Cable Center is one of five locations to host a TLC event this year.

“We are confident that our community will help to make this an extraordinary day for these girls from Lincoln High School by donating during our dress drive on January 31,” said Diane Christman, steering committee chair and senior vice president of the Cable Center.

Over 100 dresses were donated before the dress drive was scheduled to start by girls from all over the Denver Metropolitan Area. 40 Abraham Lincoln High School girls with the best academic standings are being selected to model a prom dress at the fashion show. In addition, host Monte Durham will give the girls professional advice and there will be a pre-prom meet and greet with potential employers in the fashion industry.

“During this event, they will select prom dresses, receive professional makeovers, and take part in a runway reveal that gives the girls the opportunity to show off their personalized prom day looks,” said Dant in an article for the Denver Post.

Make-A-Wish Foundation is granting a girl’s wish to walk down the runway and Denver Mayor Michael Hancock will also be attending the event. It is unknown if the fashion show will be aired on TV or not.

According to the Cable Center’s Marketing and Communications Manager, Emily Gibson, promotion of this event is going on through February. They’re taking dresses Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the front desk of the Cable Center. Contrary to the information printed on the poster, they are accepting all dresses, regardless of whether they have been dry-cleaned.
