The annual gathering of lunatics throwing themselves off of massive mounds of snow in Aspen has returned. That’s right, the Winter X Games are taking over Colorado from Jan. 22 through Jan. 25.
Aspen is about a three and a half hour drive from DU, and hotels are most likely booked to the brim, but that shouldn’t stop you from going for it, Pios.
This is an event that people watch from all over the world and dream of attending, so you should seize the opportunity to be there regardless of your level of preparation. Whether it means sleeping in your car or crashing with some friendly locals, this event is certainly not to be missed.
Chances are that you won’t make it there until the weekend, but fortunately that’s when most of the action is concentrated. Saturday will include the Men’s Ski Slopestyle final, Women’s Ski Slopestyle Final, Snowmobile HillCross Final, Women’s Snowboard SuperPipe Final, GoPro Ski Big Air Final and musical performances by Chromeo and Skrillex.
Sunday includes the Women’s Snowboard Slopestyle Final, Men’s Snowboard Slopestyle Final, Snowmobile SnoCross Adaptive Final, Snowmobile SnoCross Final, Men’s Ski SuperPipe Final and a performance by Wiz Khalifa and Snoop Dogg. Attending the competitions is totally free. However, the concerts will cost $150 a ticket.
But this isn’t about the music; it’s about the action. All of the big name athletes will be in attendance, including skiers David Wise and Maddie Bowman, snowboarders Sage Kostenburg and Jamie Anderson and Snowmobilers Levi LaVallee and Heath Frisby. So go see the best of the best throw down on the world stage, enjoy every moment and return to campus knowing you just had the best weekend ever.
