Chris Udofia for Houston’s summer team
Former Pioneer and Denver basketball star Chris Udofia is the newest addition to the Houston Rockets’ Summer League team. After graduating from DU this spring, Udofia’s post-collegiate basketball career is already off and running.
From Irving, Texas, Udofia has returned to his roots to continue pursuing his passion of basketball.
A freshman with Denver in 2010-2011, Udofia was named DU’s Most Valuable Freshman and was also recognized by the Sunbelt’s Commissioner’s List for maintaining a GPA of 3.5 or better.
During his sophomore year, Udofia received multiple honors such as being the Sunbelt Conference player of the week twice and receiving a position on the All- Sunbelt Conference First team.
As a Pioneer, Udofia was admired by his teammates and coaches for his strong leadership skills and dedication to the program. During Udofia’s junior year at Denver, he was awarded the Team Most Valuable Performer.
Finishing up his time with the Crimson and Gold this past season, Udofia held the record for the most blocked shots (256) and the most games played (124) in DU history. As a senior, Udofia was also named to the All-Summit League First Team and was voted the Summit League Defensive Player of the Year.
The Rockets have begun play in Orlando, Florida and are preparing to make their appearance at the Las Vegas Summer League, which began on July 11.
Sam Brittain signs with the Panthers
Former Pioneer and ice hockey goalie Sam Brittain has signed an entry-level agreement with the NHL Florida Panthers.
Drafted as 92 overall in the fourth round of the 2010 NHL draft, Brittain finished the season in March with a 19-14-6 overall record.
Brittain played a key role in Denver’s run to the National Collegiate Hockey Championships and graduated from DU in 2013 when he was named the NCHC Goalie of the year.
Brittain played a total of 97 games with the Crimson and Gold and recorded 7 shutouts for the Pioneers. At Denver, Brittain had an impressive overall record of 54-31-11.
During his time as a Pioneer, Brittain was recognized for his outstanding achievements in the classroom, on the ice and within the Denver community, earning him the award of an NCAA Division I Student-Athlete with senior status.
