DU’s men and women’s tennis teams are progressing through their seasons and preparing for regionals during the first week of May.

Coming off a 4-0 win against IUPUI on Saturday, April 12, the men’s tennis team improved to a 9-10 overall record and a 4-0 record in the Summit League so far for this season.

The No. 2 doubles team of freshman Diogo Rocha and senior Fabio Biasion claimed an 8-3 win.
In the No. 2 singles spot for the Pioneers, Rocha won his matches 6-4 and 6-2.

“It was another good effort,” said head men’s tennis coach Danny Westerman. “Doubles play was great.”
Next Friday, April 18, the Pios will play host in their fifth conference match of the season against Fort Wayne at the Gates Tennis Center.

Currently ranked No. 70 in the nation, the women’s tennis team stands with a 9-8 overall record at this point in the season after falling to Washington State on April 9.

The No. 2 Pioneer doubles partners, freshman Maureen Slattery and sophomore Kathryn Hughes, won their match against Washington State by an 8-4 margin.

Slattery was awarded the Summit League’s Women’s Tennis Player of the Week for the first week of April.
