The Pioneers tied the University of British Columbia 2-2 in their season opener at the Pepsi Center on Saturday.

It was announced this afternoon that DU, slotted as the No. 4 seed in the Northeast Region of the NCAA championship, will face No. 1 seed Boston College in the tournament’s first round. The game, which will be held in the DCU Center in Worcester, Mass., will be broadcast nationally next Saturday, March 29 at 2:00 p.m. Mountain Standard Time..

 The announcement comes after DU Hockey claimed the National Collegiate Hockey Conference Title with a 4-3 victory over the Miami RedHawks last night in Minneapolis to secure their seventh consecutive NCAA appearance.

 Denver pulled ahead early in the game against the ReHawks (15-20-3) after scoring twice. Sophomore Nolan Zajac scored early, just 3:13 into the first period, and Junior Daniel Doremus added another goal with six minutes left in the period.  Miami tied up the game 2-2 in the second period.

The Pioneers answered with two goals early in the third period by Zac Larraza and Emil Roming. Senior goalie Sam Brittain secured the lead against a flurry of shots in the final minutes of the game, finishing with a tottal of 23 saves on the night.

The win moved Denver to a 20-15-6 overall record, and marked a season high of four consecutive victories.
