The team finished 17-3-4 overall, with 7-0-1 record in the Western Athletic Conference, and are looking to improve on that mark in the 2013 season, after being ousted from a school-best NCAA Round of 16 finish.

The team entered the season ranked at No. 25 in the NSCCA/Continental Tires National Rankings, but have since jumped to No. 20 after wins over St. Mary’s and UC Irvine.

Last week, the Pioneers made the jump again to No. 16 thanks to a pair of shutout victories against Tennessee Martin and Alabama. Midfielder Nicholette DiGiacomo scored the lone goal in the win over Tennessee Martin, while goals from Nikki Pappalardo and Kristen Hamilton helped the Pios defeat Alabama by a score of 2-0. If the team continues to play at such a high level, the sky seems to be the limit.

The Pioneers extended their win streak to seven games with their most recent 3-0 shutout victory over Colorado on Sept. 15. The team is off to its best start in school history.

Freshman Goalie Cassidy Rey promises to be an important player for the Pios this year. She was instrumental in the shutout victory over a then undefeated Colorado team, tallying seven saves. She has recorded four shutouts in all, with three consecutive.

Another player to watch is Senior Forward Kristen Hamilton. Hamilton was selected as a Preseason All-American, and scored two goals and had an assist in the win over Colorado. Hamilton has scored 43 goals in her career as a Pioneer, and is on the verge of breaking the all-time scoring record here at Denver.

The team is away over the weekend, and play TCU on Friday and Nebraska in Lincoln on Sunday.
