Snow is feet deep in the mountains, perfect condition for DU’s annual Winter Carnival starts Friday and runs through Feb. 13.
Emily Parker, a junior and co-chair of the DU Traditions Committee, said the planned events will offer a wider selection of on-campus activities as well as on-mountain events.
“We are having more on-campus events so that Winter Carnival is more inclusive of all DU students,” said Parker. “On-mountain, we are offering accommodations at different lodges than last year. We are also having different artists for the concert on Saturday night.”
The carnival kicks off this weekend with Pioneer hockey taking on arch rival Colorado College at Magness Arena.
During the following week, there will be on campus activities such as free pizza provided by the DU Grilling Society (D.U.G.S.) on Feb. 8.
This event is being held to give the DU ski team an enthusiastic and supportive send off as they make their way to Winter Park to compete in the Denver Invitational being held Feb. 11-13.
On Feb. 10 students are invited to join DUPB for a showing of “The Social Network,” complete with s’mores and hot chocolate.
Feb. 11 marks the beginning of the weekend festivities held on-mountain in Winter Park.
The most popular activity offered in Winter Park is skiing, with lift tickets being sold at the reduced prices of $40 for one day and $80 for two days.
Winter Park is also offering a discount especially for DU Winter Carnival participants.
In addition to skiing and snowboarding, students can look forward to having some hot chocolate and s’mores in the Village before going tubing Friday night at Colorado Adventure Park.
Winter Carnival will end with a special concert held at Doc’s Roadhouse in Winter Park Village featuring DJ Shares with opener JASHKO on the evening of Feb. 12.
DUPB also has set up lodging options in Winter Park to make sure students are able to be close to all the action at a reasonable price.
Official accommodations for the nights of Feb. 11, and Feb. 12 are condos at Founders Point and Fraser Crossing.
Both locations are in the center of Winter Park Village and sleep anywhere from four to eight people.
Accommodations can also be reserved at the Winter Park Mountain Lodge.
The lodge is accessible by shuttle and is located right across highway 40 from the Village.
