DU closed Monday at 4 p.m. and for the day Tuesday due to snow conditions that swept the University Park area starting Monday morning. Though about three inches of snow accumulated around campus, cold temperatures were of greater concern.
Tuesday morning’s low was -17 degrees. Nearly 400 schools, organizations and other clubs throughout Denver also closed.
Despite the cold weather, the Ritchie Center remained open on Monday night and Tuesday.
Though temperatures stayed low yesterday, DU remained open for classes.
The high for Wednesday was 7 degrees.
In October 2009, the University of Denver closed because of snow accumulation. The snow caused immobility around campus for two days. DU also closed for one day in spring quarter 2010.
During the 2009 snow storm, students gathered on Driscoll Green for a campus-wide snowball fight. Students attempted to plan a similar snowball fight this year, but no one ended up coming – though over 200 people RSVP’d on Facebook.
See the Opinions section on page 7 for student reactions to the snow day.
