The Pioneers won the SBC Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships

what went right

The Pioneers swept the Sun Belt Conference Championships this past weekend as the women’s team claimed tts first team title while the men claimed their second, and first since 2009. Junior Clayton Myers was named the men’s Swimmer of the Year, while head coach Brian Schrader was named the Women’s SBC Coach of the Year.

what went wrong

There was not much the Pioneers did wrong as they swept the competition in the major categories. However they did not claim Men’s SBC Coach of the Year.

Men’s lacrosse (1-1)

DU 11, Vermont 6

what went right

The Pioneers were able to dominate Vermont this past weekend, out shooting UVM 42-26. The Pioneers were led by sophomore Cameron Flint who scored four goals and one assist. Freshman goalie Jamie Faus stopped 11 shots and recorded his first win of his college career.

what went wrong

The Pioneers gave up three goals in the fourth quarter after the defense played strong through the first three. Vermont was lead by Connor McNamara who had two goals.

The Pioneers play twice this weekend in the Face-off Classic against Jacksonville and Manhattan, each game starting at 1:30 pm on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. Look for the Pioneers to take advantage of the home field as they did this past weekend.

Women’s lacrosse (0-4)

Hofstra 13, DU 9

Stony Brook 11, DU 7

what went right

The Pioneers had good individual performances from many different players against Stony Brook. Their best came from junior Melissa Maier who had two goals for the Pioneers.

what went wrong

Denver fell behind early in the game with Stony Brook’s first goal coming just 29 seconds into the game. The Seawolves never surrendered the lead. Melissa Cook had three goals for Stony Brook.

The Pioneers take the field again on Friday as they open their Mountain Pacific Sports Federation schedule against St. Marys. They are still looking to capture their first win of the season. They have yet to play at home this season, and Friday’s contest marks their home opener at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium at 4 p.m. The team will host No. 3 UNC next Monday at 4 p.m. in a rematch from last season.
