Fourth place finish at Utah Invitational

What Went Right

Junior Kate Dolan finished No. 9 in the women’s 15K classic, while sophomore Kristian Soerlund placed No. 5 in the men’s 10K freestlyle.

What Went Wrong

The team suffered from several injuries and illnesses, which undoubtedly affected the outcome of last weekend’s competition. The Pioneers were outscored by Colorado, Utah and New Mexico as the team was only able to muster 710 points, more than 100 points shy of the third place Lobos.

DU 6, Montana State 1

What Went Right

Denver dominated this past weekend, sweeping the doubles competition against MSU and winning five of the six singles sets to get their first win of the season.

What Went Wrong

The Pioneers didn’t do much wrong as Andrew Landwerlen and Jen Vorkefeld led the team in doubles matches.

Women’s Tennis (1-1)

Boise State 5, DU 2

DU 5, Air Force 2

What Went Right

DU got its first win of the season when they dropped in-state opponent Air Force 5-2. With wins in four of the six singles matches, the Pioneers were able to go up 4-2 and added the final point with a doubles victory behind the performances of Emma Isberg and Elna Najera.

What Went Wrong

Before beating the Falcolns, the Pioneers were ousted on Friday afternoon by Boise State in a home match at the Pinehurst Country Club. The team only managed two single victories, while dropping every other match.

Up Next

The team looks to pick up its second win against Colorado State this Saturday in Fort Collins.

Gymnastics

Third place finish at the Oklahoma Quad Meet

What Went Right

Brianna Springer and Louise Mercer finished in first and second place, respectively, leading the team to a score of 194.300.

What Went Wrong

No. 23 Denver couldn’t quite top powerhouse foes No. 3 Oklahoma and No. 6 Oregon State, both of whom barely squeaked DU, finishing with 195.300 and 194.650, respectively.
