Fourth place finish at Montana State
What Went Right
Senior Seppi Stiegler emerged after the first day where he finished third in the men’s giant slalom. On Sunday, he placed second in the slalom event, while teammate Sterling Grant won the women’s slalom race.
What Went Wrong
After trailing Colorado and Utah early in the competition, Denver broke its tie for third place with New Mexico, falling below the Lobos on the second day. The Pioneers finished with a team score of 764.
Up Next
The ski team travels to Soldier Hollow, Utah on Jan. 21-22 to finish competing in the Utah Invitational. The Pioneers will take part in the 5K/10K Freestyle and 15K/20K Classical events to go along with the Giant Slalom and Slalom competitions from Jan. 8-9. DU was in fourth place after the second day of competition.
Gymnastics
DU 195.000, Texas Woman’s University 189.400
What Went Right
The gymnastics team set 14 career-high scores last weekend, including notable performances from juniors Louise Mercer and Brianna Springer. Mercer won the all-around competition with career best 39.175. As for Springer, she led DU on the vault with a score of 9.800.
What Went Wrong
Not much went wrong for the Pioneers on what turned out to be a career night for several individuals and a big win for a team rebounding from an early season loss.
