Freshman forward Chris Udofia is the lone freshman in the 2010-2011 class and is a prize recruit for DU’s men’s basketball team after leading his high school team at Jesuit Prep in Dallas, Texas to a District 8-5A championship as a senior.

The 6-foot-6-inch forward says he is still learning the Princeton-style offense that the Pioneers run.

“The most challenging part has been learning the offense,” said Udofia. “But the guys have been really helpful and it’s a blessing to have them.”

Udofia brings a blend of athleticism and size, which the team hopes can result in more turnovers on the defensive side of the ball.

“Chris has a great sense on the defensive side of the ball, he sees things really well,” said head coach Joe Scott.

“This program is missing that one freakish athlete who can rebound, block shots, alter shots and help us inside,” said junior guard Travis Hallam.

The freshman is hard when evaluating himself, but recognizes the ability he has to contribute from the first game on.

“I’m not really a good offensive player, but my niche is getting my hands on the ball on defense either altering passes and shots,” said Udofia. “I think I can really be helpful to this team by doing those little things on defense that helps us get extra possessions on the offensive end.”
