 What Went Right

Redshirt goalie Joe Willis recorded consecutive road shutouts last weekend as the Pioneers were able to advance to 2-0-1 in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation play. On Friday night, Denver defeated a New Mexico team that had a 33-2-1 home conference going into the match.

What Went Wrong

In Sunday afternoon’s contest, DU was out-shot 16-6 and had to play 110 minutes against UNLV. Although the result was a tie, the Pioneers were able to walk away from a tough road trip without a loss.

Up Next

The Pioneers will face the same opponents for the second straight week as they return home to CIBER Field to host New Mexico on Friday night at 7 p.m. On Sunday, the team will host UNLV.

 What Went right

Thanks to two road wins, the Pioneers sit alone atop the Sun Belt Conference standings and now control their own destiny with five regular season games remaining. With two more shutouts, sophomore goalkeeper Lara Campbell now has five shutouts this season and has allowed just one goal in conference play.

 What Went Wrong

Denver struggled in the first half against South Alabama, but goals in the 76th and 84th minute helped the Pioneers put away the Jaguars late.

 Up Next

The Pioneers play four of their final five regular season games at CIBER Field, starting this weekend when they host Florida Atlantic on Friday at 5 p.m. The team also will host Florida International on Sunday at 11 a.m.
