What Went Right
The Pioneers split this weekend thanks to a 2-0 shutout on Friday night at CIBER Field. Sophomore Drew Beckie finished the contest with a goal and an assists, while senior goalkeeper Teale Stone recorded his first career shutout.
What Went Wrong
On Sunday afternoon, the Pioneers were outplayed by the No. 23-ranked Nittney Lions. Despite outshouting their opponent 19-11, the Pioneers allowed three goals in the second half and were shutout entirely.

DU hits the road where they will participate in the Stanford Nike Classic in Palo Alto, Calif. The team plays the University of California on Friday night and then plays host Stanford on Sunday afternoon.

What Went Right
Although they were swept in both of their contests on Saturday afternoon, the Pioneers kept every set close. Against VCU, Denver pushed the first set to game point, losing 26-24. Then lost the second set in a similar manner, 27-25. Freshman Alex Turgeon led the way with a total of 27 kills and 7 digs in both contests.
What Went Wrong
The Pioneers dropped their Sun Belt Conference opener on Friday evening, when Middle Tennessee swept their conference foe. For the Blue Raiders, Angela Petyton finished with 31 assists, one less than Denver had as a team.

Denver continues with their conference schedule when they travel to Florida to take on Florida International and Florida Atlantic on Friday and Saturday, respectively.

No. 13 place finish at the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational
Recap
The Pioneers struggled over last weekend at the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational, where the team finished shooting 41-over par 905. Denver finished in 13th place amongst 18 competing squads Newcomer Ole Ramsnes finished with an impressive 2-over par 74 in the tournament’s final round. Junior Troy Anderson competed as an individual at the tournament and finished tied for seventh, recording a 1-under par 215. DU continues their fall schedule on Monday where they will take part in the 2010 Mark Simpson Invitational in Erie, Colo.
