The men’s lacrosse team will face the Denver Outlaws this Saturday, Oct. 24, at 1 p.m. in Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium.
This is the first time the two teams will play each other in the inaugural Colorado Lacrosse Showcase.
Tickets are free for all DU students and are available at the Ritchie Center box office Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Students must present their ID card for tickets.
This exhibition is the first game with head coach Bill Tierney, who recently joined the Pioneers.
Tierney coached at Princeton University for 22 seasons and led the Tigers to six NCAA Championships and 14 Ivy League Championships.
The game “will reveal to us what I think we already know,” said Tierney. “Until you get here [Colorado] you don’t really know how big lacrosse is.”
The team is wrapping up their fall ball practice season, in which they spent five to six days a week practicing, said Dillon Roy, senior defenseman.
Roy couldn’t be more excited for the opportunity to play a professional lacrosse team.
“We’ll be able to gauge ourselves and see what we’re made of, and see what kind of character we have and how we respond,” Roy said.
He also thinks it will help the team bond in every sense and be a good experience overall.
The team doesn’t know who will be playing and starting in Saturday’s game and whether they are playing to win or to get everyone in the game, according to Roy.
Preceding the game will be the Colorado Lacrosse Showcase Youth Clinic from 10 a.m. to noon. The clinic will feature Denver Outlaws players and DU head coach Tierney.
