Swimming and diving ranked No. 25 in preseason
The swimming and diving teams are ranked No. 25 in the preseason National Collegiate Scouting Association’ Collegiate Power Rankings.
The Poll is based on averaging a schools U.S. Sports Academy Director’s Cup Ranking, NCAA student athlete graduation rate and the U.S. News and World Report ranking. The Pioneers are behind No. 24 North Carolina-Chapel Hill with a power ranking of 84.66.
The swimming and diving teams opened their 2009-10 regular season with the Denver Relays last Saturday at El Pomar Natatorium.
The men’s team placed in first over Mesa State College while the women’s team finished second behind Colorado State University.
Women’s basketball to host coaching clinic
The women’s basketball team will be hosting a Coaching Clinic on Oct. 24 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m in Hamilton Gymnasium.
Head coach Erik Johnson will give a two-hour chalk talk, which begins at 2 p.m. following a three hour open-gym practice.
“The Coaches’ Clinic is a great opportunity for our coaching staff and those of the surrounding high school girls’ basketball programs to come together and talk basketball,” Johnson said in a press release. “There are a lot of great coaches in the Rocky Mountain Region the clinic will allow everyone to come together to learn from one another and see new approaches to coaching techniques.”

Women’s basketball to have first fan day
The Pioneers will be having their first women’s basketball fan day on Oct. 18.
The event will begin at 11 a.m. with the DU women’s basketball team having a three-hour practice.
At 2 p.m., practice will conclude and then fans will be able to interact with the players and get a chance to discuss the upcoming 2009-10 season.
The players also will give autographs to fans that want them, as well as participate in a question and answer conference.
The Pioneers will welcome five new players to a squad that lost four seniors to graduation.
Pioneer Kaetlyn Murdoch was Freshman of the Year last year and returns along with key leaders Britteni Rice and Ashly Robinson.
