A Homecoming parade and a two-game series between No. 2 ranked Denver and unranked Minnesota State highlight this year’s Homecoming festivities.

Students, parents, families and alumni can enjoy a variety of activities during Homecoming and Family Weekend, which will be this Wednesday through Sunday.

The campus will be decorated all week and students are encouraged to join in the celebration.

“We’re encouraging people who live in dorms and houses nearby to show some DU spirit,” said senior Ally Veneris, co-chair of traditions on DUPB.

The Career Center Fall Career and Internship Fair is the first event of Homecoming Weekend. It will be held in the Driscoll Ballroom from 3 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday. This event gives students and alumni the chance to meet representatives from local and national organizations.

Thursday, the Office of Alumni Relations hosts its annual wine reception for recent graduates from 6 to 8 p.m. in the HRTM building. In addition, University Alumni College Network presents a lecture about influence in Craig Hall from 6 to 8:30 p.m.

On Friday, a series of lectures and information sessions are planned for parents and alumni. Topics include mental health,  study abroad and personal marketing among others. Registration is required for the free sessions.

From 4 to 7 p.m. Friday DUPB will host the Pioneer Pre-game on Driscoll Lawn. The free event includes a beer garden and a variety of activities.

Club Sports are sponsoring a pumpkin pie-eating contest and a best DU-related costume contest, and the DU Grilling Society will prepare and serve free food. The menu is a surprise for now, but the food will be fall-themed, according to sophomore Sean McNiff, a D.U.G.S. grillmaster.

“It’s become tradition. We’ve grilled there [at Homecoming] for the past three years,” said McNiff.

At 7:37 p.m. on Friday, the Pioneer hockey team plays Minnesota State in the first of two games this weekend.

On Saturday, the Homecoming Parade will take place between 3 and 4 p.m.

The parade, which will feature more than 20 floats, is a contest among student organizations. The student organization with the winning float will receive $100 and a trophy.

The parade route will pass by the chancellor’s house, sorority row, and all of the residence halls, according to Veneris.

“We’ll have Corvettes and bagpipes and little kids with wagons [in the parade],” Veneris said.

During Saturday night’s hockey game, one intermission will feature a video of the Homecoming Court Royalty, and the King and Queen will be crowned during the other intermission, according to Veneris.

The weekend concludes with brunch with Chancellor Robert Coombe on Sunday. Alumni and families are welcome at the event, which will be held at the Phipps Mansion, off South University Boulevard at 3400 Belcaro Drive.
