Bob Dylan will be performing at the Magness Arena on Wednesday, Oct. 21, and DU students receive a $10 discounted ticket price.
General admission tickets that would cost $49.50 are available to student for $39.50. They can be purchased at the Ritchie Center box office.
With a headliner like Dylan coming to play on campus, DU must is developing relationships with people in the music industry, said Mike Burns, director of Ritchie Center commercial events.
“Right now, the way the university is set up, we have relationships with AEG and Live Nation to hold the concerts here. Usually we work out a deal where they determine whether or not it is financially solvent to do a show here,” said Burns.
Live Nation and AEG control several venues in town. For instance Live Nation books the Fillmore and Bluebird, and AEG provides talent for the Budweiser Center.
Another factor that brings Dylan to DU is the size of Magness Arena and a large audience of students.
“It’s cool that he’s coming to DU, because that would be extremely convenient. Having been to a concert at Magness, the venue is pretty good. They do a good job of setting up, and the sound is all right. But of course, nothing compares to Red Rocks,” said junior Joe Penland.
Sophomore Eleanor Hooper, a Dylan fan, said, “I’ve never seen him perform live. To see him perform would bring back good memories.”
Listening to Dylan goes way back in her family.
“Ever since I was little my dad would always listen to him and he would play the guitar and I would sing. It was my favorite thing. Doing that was a very family-oriented experience,” said Hooper.
Dylan’s first album came out in 1962 and he has recorded 53 more since then. His songs have mirrored the changes in American culture over the decades.
