La Chateau, the on-campus apartments originally built in the 1960s, got a $500,000 makeover this summer with updated kitchens, flooring, bathrooms and a fresh coat of paint.

The updates came with a new name, Ridgeline Apartments.

The 31-unit building, located at the corner of University Buchtel Boulevard, house juniors and seniors and graduate students.

The floor plans of the one- and two-bedroom apartments were not changed.

“The apartments look nicer,” said Mike Furno, associate director of the Department of Housing and Residence Education, “It was money well spent.”

“We look forward to students starting the new semester with freshly remodeled apartments,” said Curt Comba, the local franchise owner of Paul Davis Restoration and Remodeling, the company hired by DU to do the renovations.

As soon as students left in June, demolition crews gutted dated bathrooms and kitchens.

They ripped out the 1970s-style pink-and-green sinks and tubs and replaced them with new fixtures, tile and flooring.

“We were fortunate to get a fast approval on it,” said Furno about the remodel.

Because of that, the apartments were ready for students to move in at the start of this quarter.

“The hope was to update the property and provide better value,” said Furno.

“I am happy with the outcome,” said Comba, “it has a brand new, modern looking finish.”

In addition to the interior remodel, the landscaping was also spruced up.

Reece Enderson, a senior at DU, helped with the landscape project this summer.

He did everything from pulling out bushes and removing rubble to planting new trees.
