The Providence College Friars came out in a snowy Denver afternoon and beat Denver, 10-6 last Saturday. The first quarter was all PC as they scored four goals, including the first two coming from Rhett Chambers.

The second quarter was an explosion of offense with seven goals being scored, five coming from the Friars and two from Denver.

Penalties were a problem for DU as the Friars scored two man-advantage goals in the second quarter to continue their dominance on the day. This included Friar Jack Horrigan scoring back-to-back goals just past the midway point of the quarter.

The first Denver goal came from sophomore attacker Marek Tzagournis, who cut the PC lead to 6-1 midway through the second quarter.

The second Denver goal came at the two-minute mark of the quarter, redshirt senior midfielder Jack Tortolini cut the deficit to seven at 9-2.

With the third Denver goal early in the third quarter from senior attacker Noah Manning, Denver was starting to claw their way back and cut the PC deficit to 6 at 9-3.

The third quarter was all DU, with three goals. The second goal was a man-up goal from redshirt sophomore attacker Cody Malawasky to put the game at 9-4.

Nearing the end of the third quarter, DU cut the deficit to four goals at 9-5 PC. But, PC scored a late goal at 2:37 to keep Denver at bay, 10-5.

The fourth quarter was quiet with only one goal being scored at the four-minute mark by Tzagournis; his second goal of the game made the game 10-6.

But, PC did what they needed to come away with the win in Denver, moving Denver’s record to 7-6 on the season.
