Denver women’s lacrosse went on the road for their first week of the 2025 season but were unsuccessful in bringing back a tally in the win column.

The no. 15 team in the country dropped their first contest to unranked Louisville on Friday, 8-10, and then to unranked Ohio State on Sunday, 5-9.

In Friday’s contest, the Crimson and Gold fell to a four-goal deficit after the first quarter and never gained back the lead. DU kept the margin close though and went into halftime down, 3-5.

After halftime, the Cardinals’ lead ballooned to five in the third quarter off of two free-position goals. Louisville ended the match three for seven in free position chances, while Denver finished three of 10 chances.

DU did not concede the game after the momentum swing and mustered a rally in the middle of the fourth quarter to bring the deficit back within two. The comeback fell short though as the Crimson and Gold received a red card with four minutes left and the offensive surge faltered.

Denver forced 18 turnovers and picked up 11 more ground balls than the Cardinals in the loss.

Sophomore attacker Olivia Ripple had a career day and recorded a career-best four goals and one assist. Senior midfielder Caroline Colimore, sophomore attacker Kyra Obert, senior attacker Lauren Black and redshirt senior attacker Raegan Wilson netted one goal each in the match.

In Sunday’s contest, in Columbus, Ohio, DU again fell to an early 2-0 deficit but tied the game in the early moments of the second quarter, 3-3.

Colimore tied the game off a man-up opportunity 39 seconds into the second frame. Wilson picked up the assist on the goal and totaled two in the match.

But, a three-goal run from the Buckeyes in the second quarter squashed any offensive momentum the Crimson and Gold held. Ripple scored a goal before the end of the first half, but DU would be held scoreless until a Colimore consolation goal with five minutes left in the fourth quarter.

DU matched Ohio State with 16 shots on goal, but the Buckeye goalkeeper, Jocelyn Torres, made 11 saves and shut the door on a lot of Crimson and Gold chances. Senior goalkeeper Emelia Bohi started in both contests on the weekend and made 14 saves on 33 recorded shots-on-goal.

Colimore and Ripple led the way with two goals in the contest. Black also registered a goal in the first quarter.

The Crimson and Gold now move on to host their first home game of the season against Vanderbilt University on Sunday. The season opener is slated for a noon start time and is available to stream on Midco Sports Plus.
