As many students know all too well, DebateFest tickets ran out rapidly, leaving many DU students unable to attend the historical events happening on our campus this week.
Luckily for students, many bars and restaurants around Denver will be hosting presidential debate viewing parties on Wednesday night.
As of this weekend, Jordan’s Bistro and Pub, located at 2363 E. Evans Ave., is planning on hosting a campaign-headquarter themed viewing party on Wednesday, kicking off at 6 p.m. on Oct. 3.
The presidential debate will be shown on all their televisions and musician Jason Vigil will play the national anthem. There will be live music throughout the evening.
Jordan’s will be offering a number of specials and promotions including free samples of Budweiser beer. The full menu will also be available to customers from 6-9 p.m.
Crimson and Gold, located at 2017 S. University Blvd., is substituting its usual trivia night to host a red, white and blue themed viewing party that will be open to the public during the debate.
The debate will replace the usual sports cast on all of their televisions starting at 7 p.m.
The bar will offer $2 Budweiser beer all day as well as the happy hour food and drink menu which includes beer, burgers and chili cheese fries. Specials on drinks will be offered in spirit of the debate.
Snarfs, located at 1729 E. Evans, will also be viewing the debate and hosting an array of cheap drinks, notably their blue “donkey punch” drink and the red “elephant drunk” drink, as well as their usual discoball drink specials.
Those looking for a more comfortable and relaxing event can travel off-campus to the Wildlife Experience, located at 10035 Peoria St. in Parker which is hosting a viewing party in their Extreme Screen Theater.
The theater is equipped with a 40 by 60-foot screen with surround sound to ensure a memorable viewing experience.
Traditionally a theater that shows wildlife films and the occasional film event, The Wildlife Experience has free admission for the debate without a registration but is first come first serve.
A cash bar and refreshments will start at 6 p.m.
For anyone interested in watching the presidential debate at home, CNN, NBC and Fox will be streaming the debate online as well as on television, and so will local news channels, including DenverPost.com who will be doing an online stream of the event.
While many restaurants within walking distance of DU are hoping to remain open during the debate, David Danushevsky, the general manager of Crimson and Gold recognizes that for security purposes, there’s no guarantee these restaurants will be allowed to stay open.
“We are prepared for the worst, but hope for the best,” said Danushevsky.
And there’s always the option of hosting your own viewing party. Red, white, blue and barbeque.
