The lottery drawing for student debate tickets will be held next Monday Oct. 1 at 9:45 a.m. on Driscoll Green if weather permits. According to USG president Sam Estenson, a small ceremony will be held where Chancellor Coombe will speak, followed by a speech from Estenson and then the drawing.

“All students’ names (including students who graduated last year) will be entered into the lottery once, in addition to the extra names added for students who attended lottery events,” said Estenson. “The list will be randomly narrowed down to about 1,500 names beforehand so that we can physically draw names from a large hopper at the event.”

Only about 25 to 50 names will actually be drawn on Monday morning so that it doesn’t take too much time. The rest of the winners will be notified via e-mail later that afternoon. All winners will have until midnight on Monday to accept their ticket. If any students decline, then the debate committee will refer to a backup list. The final list will be ready by Tuesday morning.

“We don’t know exactly how many tickets we’ll be able to give out yet,” said Estenson. “It is entirely up to the Secret Service, so we won’t know until last minute.”

All winning students must go through extensive security procedures in order to attend the debate.
